Overall Satisfaction with Miro
My company (in the health care insurance industry) has greatly expanded our use of Miro over the years. Miro came about during the pandemic when we could not meet in person and allowed collaboration from teams working remotely from all time zones and all hours of the day. We've kept Miro and grown the number of users in our company. My team primarily uses Miro for Process Mapping and SIPOCs but it has also come in handy for other teams working on such projects as: Strategy brainstorming and planning; Training content development and delivery; Storing and showcasing project tools and techniques; and a recent Finance Org project involving the complex updating of several company org charts/hierarchies.
Pros
- Allows our users and employees to contribute and collaborate on various Miro projects from all over the US and overseas, at any time of the day.
- The Miro options to leave feelings and ideas on boards seems endless, from comments, notes, stickies, emojis, documents, sketches, cartoons, voting buttons, tables, etc etc
- Allows for much creativity and flexibility, but you can also control who can do what on particular boards, whether this is edit access or just view/comment. Miro stores history and backups so if someone makes a mistake and overwrites material it can be easily retrieved without having to be recreated.
Cons
- I would like to see if Miro can work better with apps like Smartsheet
- I would like to see if Miro can easily turn complex old files made in Visio to easy-to-use Miro Boards?
- Can't think of anything else at this time - seems Miro has more features than most teams actually use.
- Miro was an absolute life saver during the pandemic, when we went from in-person meetings with Brown Papers and Butcher Blocks on Conference Room Walls with Sticky notes - to an all virtual setting.
- Miro has improved productivity immensely as all project collaborators can contribute to boards on their time in their time zone - all other users can see the updates and progress in real time.
- Miro has eliminated the cost and need to email visios that had to be printed on large sheets of paper to be understood. Just simply zoom in on your monitor and edit on the fly.
The past year I've been leading process mapping sessions. These involve Teams calls which we record and put the link to the meeting right on the Miro board for transparency. We also use the many shapes, lines, boxes, sticky note colors, and background to keep the board organized, yet easy to use and interesting. We are able to attach exhibits shared in the meetings right on the boards in special boxes, whether they are screen grabs or actual files that illustrate the process. Miro makes it easy to pull pain points and corresponding future state recommendations right from the board and export into Excel for easy saving and sharing with others.
Miro has helped us nearly eliminate our use of Visio for process mapping. Also there is no reason in our company to attempt process maps in Word and Excel either. There is no comparison to what you can do on Miro if you are still struggling with these tools. Although the use of PowerPoint is still prevalent, I am finding myself more and more creating a few slides in PowerPoint but pasting them in Miro for demo purposes and meeting purposes. It saves time by displaying just the one screen without switching applications.
As stated earlier, our company is in all time zones in the US and and a few assets overseas. Miro makes it easy to share boards with all and get their feedback, comments, and input from anywhere, anytime, 24/7. The chat, note, and notification features make this easy to get others attention as needed.
We use Jira in other departments and some IT folks put content out on Confluence but I don't find it was user friendly as Miro and harder to log in and access. I use the Miro downloaded desktop app which serves me well and easier than going to a web site. I formerly was a heavy user of Visio for process mapping which for me has 100% been replaced with Miro.
